Dubai Metal Festival: Meet UAE's Fatal Qualm

Fatal Qualm is one of the most impressive representatives for the UAE Metal scene. The band not only shared the stage with international names but also set international performances. They give energetic and epic symphonic sound, and catchy stage representation. So, they are a good local addition to Dubai Metal Festival. Here is our interview with the band. 1. Symphonic local band who will share the stage with the famous Lacuna Coil, what is your impression? Do you have any influences from the band? First, we are so excited. One of the legends will be playing with us, and it is a privilege. Even though we don’t have one influence on their side, we admire their vocals structures with the synth, the riffs, and their lyrics wise. Having a female metal musician in your band, how much does that represent the presence of female metal players in UAE? Heavy metal isn’t something popular to strive for when talking about women as musicians, most especially in the Middle East. It’s almo

Dubai Metal Festival: Meet Iranian Metal Band 5GRS

5GRS is one of the experienced Metal acts from Iran. The band plays Gothic and Progressive Metal stuff and had three full-length albums, and the latest released one was last May. 5GRS will participate in the first-ever Dubai Metal Festival. We have the chance to chat with 5GRS on their upcoming performance. Being an active Metal band since 2004 in Iran, how can you describe the Iranian Metal scene, and what is the mainstream in it? Due to the circumstances of our country, there are not many active bands and those who are active are facing a lot of obstacles and have to be underground. There are no official concerts here but we still have high hopes for the future. What are the main challenges that face you in writing music and performing live? For us, music has always been our second job so the bands have to put in extra effort and spent much more time writing the songs and getting ready for the gigs. If I may ask, what does the name of your band mean? This name is inspired

Dubai Metal Festival: Meet UAE's Svengali

UAE’s Svengali is one of the most active Metal bands in the Middle East.  It is a strong performer for most of the Metal acts organized in Dubai in the past few years. The band will participate in the Dubai Metal Festival.  Here is our interview with the Svengali on Saturday’s performance. Being part of the first Dubai Metal Festival that is Organized by two of the biggest Metal forces in Dubai: Metal East Records & JoScene, how was your impression, especially, since you cooperated with both before? Metal East Records & JoScene have both been an integral part of the Svengali story. Our very first show ever was playing the “Metal Eastern Night” in 2015 organized by the same two. Being part of the first iteration of Dubai Metal Fest feels like hanging out with family. You participated in several local Metal performances with several recognized names in Dubai, how can you describe the local scene in Dubai? The local scene in Dubai is small but mighty. The bands that stic

The Metal Sister blog had the chance to interview SIF’s bassist Hussam on the band’s participation in the Dubai Metal Fest. How did you apply to the festival? Around the World in 80 Tunes Project: (Cairo - Egypt) Expiration of A Young Man - "Grey Entropy"

Although it is the fourth tune for the journey, we are still in Cairo to pick another unique tune from the country's capital!  Expiration of a Young Man is an Egyptian postrock band! Yeah, postrock! And to be honest, the band introduced a unique, professional musical release which is "Grey Entropy." I had an experience with the band before as I reviewed the group's first music video, but I didn't have the chance to listen to the album until this morning.  The EP is almost 30-minute experience, and I am using the term experience because the tunes of the album are wider than impressive sequence of rhythms and lines! The sequence of the music, the shifts between gloomy to strong sounds, and the mixture between the craziness of the guitars and the elegance of the keys just mess up with your mind! The music takes you from the seat, and dives into the depth of the world and its gloomy sides, alongside deconstructing your mind and breaks down your beliefs.  Wasting am

Around the World in 80 Tunes Project: (Cairo - Egypt) Medic - "Ascension"

As we started our journey from the very south of Egypt towards the North, we are now in Cairo. And, when it comes to Cairo, it is so hard to select just only one Metal band from the city to talk about because Cairo is one of the country's two major hubs of Metal bands. Scarab, Crescent, Ahl Sina, Medic, Sinprophecy, Frostagrath, Destiny in Chains, Devour, Divine, Wyvern, and many others made a shining mark in the history of our scene. But, if I could pick a band with a universal theme as this blog tackles more universality-oriented themes, It would be Medic's "Ascension"!  The concept of "Ascension" is deeply mystic, and philosophical. It is the journey from freeing the soul from the chains of the body and unifying it with the wide existence, tasting the pleasures of paradise, and fearing the depth flames of hell. So, the tracks of the album take the form of chapterization, as if you are reading a novel or a story. There are characters, they are anonymous
