The Metal Divas: Female Metal Voices Around The World I

The Metal Sister is back again with a new Metal
Series of Articles. But, this time our series is not dedicated to a certain country, but it is
dedicated to a big number of female Metal
Voices who fight to deliever their own voices. We called all Female Metal Voices from around the world to join and speak up! Also, we set up a
wide network of connections to reach a bigger
number of participants.

So please, be patient and read what those divas said, support them to continue their road, help
them to fulfill their dreams and enjoy with the
blessings of their voices.

Amie Chatterley (UK šŸ‡¬šŸ‡§)

This series is unusual series, that’s why its
headliner should be unusual too. Amie
Chatterley is a strong, unstoppable lady.
She is not using her vocals but she provide
her band Dakesis with outstanding Bass
tunes.
Amie also managed to prove to the whole
world that she is not only a strong lady on the stage, but also she is a strong lady backstage and in recording rooms. She is running a
recording studio “CaspaArx Studios” in
addition to heading a Power Metal Festival in the UK, Power Metal Quest Fest and Agent
for Enso Music Management.
In fact, Amie was so humble and she accepts
our invitation warmly and she talked honestly
about her career, dreams and hopes.

We started with Amie with talking about how she started her career.
I joined Dakesis around 10 years ago where I was roped in on bass duties, but my musical
career started with Piano, Cello and Guitar,”
Amie expressed.
Bass was never my first instrument, but
something I started learning on joining the band. As
for my career in music, over the years I've
made a series of changes, giving up my full time job
as a Qualified Nurse about 6 years ago to
work full time on my own business,” she added.

Then, she told us about how she met her
band mates.
I already knew Gemma as we had been good
friends for a while. She had recently joined
Dakesis and they were in need of a bass player. I was a guitarist, but soon fell in love with bass.
We then found Matt & Adam whilst looking for a guitarist and drummer and the rest is history,
 Amie said.

After that, she talked openly about the
challenges she faces.
There are a lot of challenges; being self
employed means a lot of early starts and late
nights with not much down time. Being on the
road can be fairly taxing, you spend lot's of time away from loved ones and friends and family, but I think
that's also part of the charm.
One of the biggest challenges has got to be
some of the discrimination we still face even
now with having females in the band. But I think the
world is very slowly changing and coming
round to the idea that women can kick some
serious ass too,” Amie explained.

https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1n12XCiTIPSmOUmZjWeeeAYQDMgmDOykO

Regarding her family and friends reaction,
 she said,
I don't think a lot of them really understood at
first. A lot of family assumed it was just noise
and that we would play to a couple of people in
the local pub. A lot of family who have been to
our shows, very quickly change their minds and think it's amazing.

In fact, we were curious to know how Amie manages her time.
The days are long and there isn't a lot of time to relax, but I have a very supportive family and friends who help out during tours and big events.
Within the band, we are all good friends. We
work together, tour together and socialize
together and I have a lot of friends who are also in the music industry, so it's nice to have people around who understand the pressures of having a full time music career.”

Moving to her unforgettable steps, she said,
I think sticking at music through some really
hard times has been something I'm super proud of.
Dakesis have been on such a musical journey over
the year's and we do everything ourselves.
Everything is organised entirely by us,
self-released, self-recorded. We come up with
crazy ideas and somehow manage to execute
them and I'm really proud of how well we work
together to achieve even the most ridiculous
things.

Then, Amie told us about her future steps.
Dakesis have just stepped into the studio to
work on album 3, which is very exciting. We have lot's of shows planned following the release of
this album and are excited about where it will
take us.
This year will also see the third Power Metal
Quest Fest which I'd love to grow and become a staple for fans. There's always something in the works though.

Finally, she sent a supportive message to the whole Metal ladies.

Be true to yourself and don't let anyone tell you
that you can't achieve your goals. A bit of hard
work and dedication go a long way!

Amandine Darkdova ( France šŸ‡«šŸ‡·)

Rising as a shining star from the lands of
beauty and art, France, Amandine Darkdove
rocks Europe through her charming voice
with her band Veil of Mist. She always likes to describe herself as a Metal voice and another for a little girl.

Amandine accepts our invitation with beautiful
welcoming. We started with her about her career and how she met her Band mates.

I started singing at the age of 12 on an old
cassette recorder, with a microphone to record
and listen to me again. And, at the age of 18
looking to join a musician's band, and Metal
literally fell on me, I discovered at that moment
this style that combines my two passions,
electric guitar-based music, and technical
singing,” she expressed.

She continued, “Veil Of Mist, they came directly
to me with the proposal to join their ranks,
because in the business, we all know each other more or less.”

Next, she mentioned that hardships she faces
The first difficulty in my case is time, I'm not a
professional singer, I have to keep a job next
door to pay the bills and fill the fridge, I don't live on music, and it's often complicated because of the busy schedules.”

She expressed that she hopes to professionalize herself for music. Shortly, regarding her family’s support, she mentioned that her family always
supports her and encourages her through her
choices.

Regarding lessons she learnt through her
career, she explained, “We meet many men who
consider us as women objects, not as artists, it
is a pity, but especially for them, because on my side, I have learned not to worry about it.

Through our talk with her, Amandine revealed to us her role model.

My role model is Floor Jansen, for everything
she represents, her talent, her beauty, and her
personality as well as her commitment to make women respected in Metal ❤

Finally, Amandine sent a message to the
whole Metal Voices.

Do what you like, be proud of it, as long as it is
in agreement with yourself, and above all have
fun ❤

through Her music. Dimitra Panariti rocks
Greece with Meden Agan. She is always on
the list of the strongest Female Metal Voices.

In fact, it is not our first time to talk with Dimitra. Meden Agan was one of the participants at our “Stories from the Aegean” series. Plus, she is a dear friend so our talk was warm and easygoing.
Dimitra started with narrating her story with music. My love for music as well as my training beganat the very early age of 6. My career with Meden Agan in particular begun 4 years ago,” she said.
https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1QufNisZ5Nn6KYWA5cRvlgZTlyXgaL3BP
About how she joined the band, she expressed  “Meden Agan members were holding an audition to replace the previous singer and I was one of the 30 singers that applied.
After that, Dimitra explained to us the main problem faces her.Money is always the big issue. We always have to rase the bar to be competitive. I feel like I have to rethink everything before I express it so that i will not leave any window open for misinterpretations.”
Regarding her family, she expressed that her husband and her friends were happy for me and supportive unlike her parents.

Next, Dimitra talked about her time management.Music is my work and that includes teaching composing, rehearsals and performance. The rest of my time is dedicated to the care of my child, my home and my husband. All these things are really very pleasant and not hard to manage at all.”
Then, we asked her about what makes her proud.Me, being the lead singer of the oldest symphonic Metal band in Greece, having created the record catharsis with Meden Agan.I am also proud of my husband, my child and being able to uphold a good an honest name for me,” Dimitra explained.Shortly, she mentioned some of her role models asFloor Jansen, Devin Townsed, Luca Turrili, Doro, Fabio Leone.
https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=13O29JfBe7ujj_4ffK1LOb1L7isVWdjgZDimitra revealed to us great news regarding Meden Agan’s new album. We are in the process of writing and composing our next record. We have several shows coming up and constantly evolve never rest.”

Finally, Dimitra sent a supportive message to you, ladies!
Music is supposed to bring people together not being a reason to bad mouth each other and make  enemies. We are all different yet so alike and we all serve the same mistress--music of course. I wish everybody best of luck with their and devors and I'm truly looking forward for many future cooperations with each and everyone of my colleague.

Genevieve Rodda (Australia šŸ‡¦šŸ‡ŗ)
https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1yraCB0DN8aMZ7my5wR8Ef2u0M_5SCtRYAt the edge of the world, Australia, Genevieve rised with incredible vocal skills. She rocks the stage in Australiawith Temtris and sets the Australian stage on fire. It is not the first time for me to interview Temtris, so this interview went so smoothly.
First off, Genevieve started with telling us about her early career.
I began learning guitar at age 11 and started writing my own songs at about 12 years old. I enjoyed this and decided to do singing lessons at 14 years old.
My singing teacher was teaching me opera style vocals because i had large vocal range and strength. I joined my first band at 14 years old also and played my first show. Never looked back after that,” she narrated.
After that, we moved to another question which is her band mates. My first band members were friends from schoolI actually sang in. My husband’s band and we have been the backbone of Temtris. I find we usually meet members from playing shows with other bands. Our drummer Youhan moved to Australia and happened to be in my home town when we required a new drummer. He auditioned and the rest is history,” Genevieve expressed.

Next, we asked her about her challenges. I think trying to present a professional product withlimited money or backing from a major label keeping original members is difficult also as everyone has different goals and life changes.
Also working a day job and being a mum while trying to work in a professional band can be time consuming,” she explained.

Regarding her family and friend’s reaction towards her Metal activity, She revealed,Metal is not popular in Australia, my mum has always been supportive and I could not have given so much time to my music without her. My friends think I am crazy trying to do so much in my life.
https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=16ISlLXLuWag-brhQXG-99ub-iIcJqhzF
Regarding her strategy in time management, she hilighted,It is not easy. I work 4 days a week in a special needs school. We try and organize tours in the holidays to take the pressure off us. My weekends are usually busy with gigs, rehearsals or doing interviews like this one.
Then, we asked her about which steps made her proud. Probably the release of our albums. We are up to number 5 now and it is definitely our best. Every album is a challenge to do bigger and better. The reviews of Rapture have been amazing and it shows we can grow as artists and muscians even through tough times,” she mentioned.

Shortly, she told us her role models.Musically i love Doro for her attitude and her positive outlook. I am also a big fan of Bruce's vocal work (from Iron Maiden) as well as Geoff Tate. I like to be fit and strong and do my best to be positive in life,” Genevieve said.
https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1A5VOYSAe_BUPNnWX8wepIwpOu3qsuKUz
Next, she revealed to us her future steps. We are releasing a new video clip very soon. Not sure if we will do another album yet. We are enjoying playing shows with bigger bands this year. Such Ensiferum and we are supporting Loudness in May,” Genevieve mentioned.

Finally, Genevieve sent a message to her Metal colleaguesBelieve in yourself and give it all you can. Work hard and play hard.. horns up to you all šŸ¤˜

Joanna Kay Robinson (UK šŸ‡¬šŸ‡§)
https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1C7ODBcYg0EvIRXijQ_ErjmklcEp1QBUM
From the kingdom of the strongest queens.
Joanna carries within the heart of her vocals  outstanding operatic pitches. She carries the half of the femanine operating forces of
Aonia Band.
I was lucky to interview the full feminine forceof Aonia. In fact, both ladies were so friendly to us. You can catch Melissa’s interview at the next part.

Joanna mentioned to us how her career was
started.
I have been singing since I was very young
as my family are very musical too. I started
singing in shows with my mum when I was
young and then joined choirs and other
singing groups as I got older.
My first taste of metal was singing backing
vocals with Aonia for a Bloodstock Metal to
the Masses competition. 6 years ago now,”
she said.

https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1NrxKvOLCz2G2quU1j-d31G7fuHiWDXgC

Then, she told us about how she met her
 band mates. Joanna expressed,
I knew Mel from singing in an Opera group
and became great friends. She then asked me to join Aonia on stage for the M2M comp and
that's when I met the rest of the gang. We
have had a few line-up changes since then.

Next, we moved to talk about the
challenges she faces.
The biggest challenge for me is managing
my day to day job while giving everything
I can to the band. I also still do a lot of Opera
too, so it's like having 3 jobs! ” She explained.

Regarding her family’s reaction towards her
Metal career,
Joanna expressed, “My friends and family have been so supportive to the band and are so proud of me. I am forever grateful for them. When I
tell new people that I front a Metal band the
first thing they always ask is "Do you do that
screaming thing?”

We asked Joanna her about  her time
management strategy and she ironically
replied “With military precision!šŸ¤£.”,
“The band is like my family so it never feels
like working,” she added.

We asked Joanna about what makes her
feel proud. She expressed,
There are times when I'm super busy and tired and want to stay at home and relax, but as soon as I'm in that rehearsal room or gig, it so worths it. I'm proud of all of the band and how committedwe all are.

https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1GtH6OkKNo7PW49HHNlVB7B2MpRRyizRJ

Then, we moved to talk about her role model. In fact, we liked how Joanna praised her mom.
My mum is my biggest role model. She is a fighter and never gives up no matter what comes her way. I aspire to be like her always,”
She revealed.

Regarding her future steps, she highlighted, “To play bigger and better shows, stages and
festivals. And to keep writing new music and
showing the world what we are made of!”

Finally, Joanna sent a message to the ladies who rock around the world.
Keep Rocking Ladies

Laura Donnelly (Scotland šŸ“󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁓ó æ)
https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=17wBxOLJ-G5qbG0oyctyK_BzxMm7htoa7

Came from the lands of heros and rebels, Laura Donnelly continues the path of the Scottish beasts through her loud vibes. She is fronting one of the finest Doom Metal bands in her homeland King Witch.
Laura welcomed us beautifully and her interest in our interview was really respectable.

First off, we were interested in knowing more about Laura’s early career.
I didn't start singing until I was 20. I was at art school and my friends were all in rock and Metal bands. I loved going to see them play and we'd all jam together for fun. I was asked to to join one of their bands and basically that was that. I was hooked,” Laura described.

Regarding How she met her band membersshe answered,
Jamie (Guitarist and husband) and I met when I was 22 when I joined his already existed band Firebrand Super Rock which was a full on trad Heavy Metal band.
We recorded and toured for around 10 years and decided we'd like to try something else so that's how King Witch was born. After a couple of lineup changes we now have a solid team.
Lyle (Drummer) was already in an Edinburgh groovy sludge band called Sapien and Rory (Bass) was in a spacey prog rock band called Solar Sons from Dundee. We all knew each other from the Scottish gigging scene and both boys are excellent musicians.
https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1Pt39r8Mz7fcHk6y2yAlkTbqTWu5hl4-q

Then, we asked her for the challenges she faces through her career.
I guess the main challenges are balancing your other life with band life. It takes up a lot of time if you consider band practice, writing, touring, booking, marketing, artwork, practice, practice, practice and then all your normal life stuff to bring in the cash to do all the band stuff, haha.

There have been times when being a woman in a Metal band has had its own challenges too.
Such as being judged by what you wear, how you look and that's before they've even bothered to hear what you sound like. Luckily I've not really encountered any of that while being in King Witch which is great.
It should always be about the music. There is no difference in my opinion if a band has women or men. If you're a good band thats what counts!” she explained.

After that, we asked her about her family’s reaction towards her Metal activity.
My family thought it was brilliant!! Both my parents are into bands like Led Zep, Hendrix etc so they loved coming to some of our shows.
We're a Scots/Irish family so there were always a lot of family parties with traditional style singing where you'd get up in the middle of the room and do your piece. Alcohol generally helped in these situations, haha,” she expressed.

Also, Laura told as more about how she manages her time.
As I mentioned earlier it can be quite tricky. I've been doing it for so long now so it just seems normal to have a really busy life. Jamie and I are married which makes it a lot easier for us.
We both get to do the things we love together which is great. We try to make sure we visit family and friends when we can. Most of our friends are in bands too so we all understand when there are times we don't see each other for a while,” she added.
https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=19E9hfDW-5OuNoPccXmkDtDgH_bEKAyIq

Next, Laura told us more about her unforgettable steps in her career.
Every recording I've done I've been proud ofespecially the King Witch EP Shoulders of Giants and our debut album Under the Mountain.
They were both received really well. Getting to play at Sweden Rock was really cool too because we had only just started the band when we were asked to play. It was a fantastic experience and it was also our first time playingin Europe. We've since done a few Euro tours,” Laura said.

After that, Laura revealed to us her role models.
I have a few role models but as I mentioned earlier I don't thing gender should be a thing in music.
Singers such as Janice Joplin, Dio, Robert Plant and Messiah Marcolin have had a big impact on me musically.
They are all really expressive, ballzy singers which I just love. They put everything they have into their performances and you can feel every emotion when you listen to them,” Laura mentioned.

https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1a_0N1_J7MNE8iMCkatqh-1_eWxyA352j
Concerning her future steps, she said,
We are currently in the process of writing our second album which we are really excited about. The songs are really coming together and I think its going to sound epic. I'm biased of course, “laughs”
Other than that we just want to play as many places as possible and spread the King Witch love,”she added.

Finally, Laura sent a message to the whole ladies.
Never be afraid to stand up and give it your all
and never let anyone tell you you're not good
enough. Forget about what people think and just blow them away musically. Lastly just enjoy the moment.

That was our first part :) I published it as a
warming up for more upcoming storming parts
m/. I presented to you five of the finest
female fronted Metal bands. Support the
rocking m/!!!

The Metal Divas: Female Metal Voices Around the World VII

As we are celebrating our comeback I think that it will be great to check a new part from our The Metal Divas series. This part is full of power with slight changes in our format to be easier to follow!     Adrastea (Greece ) A great voice shining from the lands of Hera and Zeus, Adrastea is rocking the Greek Metal Scene with her band Entropy Devine.  We  started with Adrastea by asking her about how she started her career.  "   I have been singing since I can remember myself. I was always a rocker so I remember I would always find a way to secretly sneak into music related activities.  I was not allowed to learn music, cause, you know  I am a woman and I should do all that society expects from a woman and nothing more.)  So I figured creative ways of doing so as a part of my Rock 'N Roll rebellion while  growing up,"  she answered. Next, we asked her about how she met her band mates.   " From an ad in search
