Introduction
I think, Egyptian Metalheads are still surprised with widening the horizons of the Egyptian Metal Scene page to include a reviewing window. As the page was only dedicated to documenting the Egyptian Metal bands and musicians! And as I am seeking to enhance my reviewing eye and ear in a more comfortable place as this blog away the respected standers of the webzine I write for as Rock Era Magazine, Audio Inferno, Jorzine, Metal Bell, Metal Doux Acier, etc.
And actually, exploring the music and the scenes of the North is really magical, through my previous post, I explained my personal experience with Trees of Eternity music, and Juha was a real supportive guy as he kindly shared my post on Trees of Eternity official page :).
So today, I am bringing a new, nice experience to you, and it was a beautiful accidentally chance!!
The story
As I am suffering from insomnia, I found myself scrolling my FB up and down till I found a post made by Slow band page, “I discovered that I liked the page but I could’t Remember when, as you know we may like bands pages because we seek to discover their music”, the post was posted on Wednesday but I saw it 2 hours ago, Facebook new strategies of page!!
So, Idk why I decided to listen to one of this band’s track, even without knowing the genre, but I checked the band’s about and I found out that it carries a magnificent musical taste Atmospheric Funeral Doom! An excellent choice for a depressed, single, alone, 23 year old lady as me, heeh!
So, I scrolled down that I found the link of its latest release “V Oceans” album, released in 2017!
So great, I started to listen to the first song! Which I decided to review! And I am writing this post after listening to this wonderful piece of art, on my phone, in bed!! Some of Blogging blessings :D
Background
As I don’t know a lot about the band, here is some basic info as Slow is a two-man band, founded in Belgium in 2007, and its latest album physical copies are sold out!!
Hey do you remember the name of the album “V Oceans”!!
The Review
“Aurora” the title of the track may give you nice hint about its atmosphere, could you please activate you imagination for fractions of second.
Imagine that you are standing in a northern county with freezing cold weather, standing alone, depressed, torn inside, and you accidentally see the beautiful colors of the northern sky lights, known as Aurora! Yes! This sad, calm smile on your face with crystal frozen tears on your face!
This is my understanding of the track, and I am going to prove this concept with music :)
“Remaining rays of the light fade
Emerge with the ocean of good”
A part from “Aurora” lyrics
The track is started with few, calm ambient/atmospheric sounds, they are as the calm sound of universe, the sound of inside emptiness, the sound of flooding thoughts internally!
After a few seconds, those sounds become higher, and stronger, they were shaped to build a melodic riff!, I felt that this part could be a suitable musical background for a slowmotined visual sceene.
It reflects, the cold smell of ice, the lands of the north, the whiteness of mountains tops. In 2:11, this spiritual atmosphere is combined with a warm, emotional guitar tunes. When the vocals start, I notice the presence of the previous ambient sounds, alongside keys notes dressed in folk mood. The music is like a mirror reflects all your inner pain, and lifetime agony.
Actually, the solo is a breathtaking one, specially when it is followed by slow downed guitar melodies, in a classic Post Rock style (in my point of view).
This calm, heartwhelming mood is broken by the hard beats of traditional Funeral Doom style, alongside vocals, and ambient/atmospheric colors, it expressed a raging sea!
Actually, the harmony between dynamic impressive guitar sounds with alerting Bass tunes immitate the conflicted sounds of human thoughts, feelings and emotions.
Conclusion
Slow’s “Aurora” is like a darkened “Aurora” when the beauty of the nature combined with the blackness of a depressed, frustrated, and tired soul. The colors of the sky, meet with the starlit universe and a misty existence of the inside, the calm nocturnal universe sounds meet the eternal silent cry of the mankind!
A wonderful piece of art I expericned by chance.
