EXCLUSIVE: Interview with Inner Missing's composer, vocalist Sigmund Vandrer

When beauty of sadness, and human inner nature meet the magic of Gothic/Doom Metal music, so Inner Missing should be mentioned. Iconic Doom Metal Inner Missing is founded in Russia, by the talented vocalist, and composer Sigmund Vandrer.

The band has a big fan-base in the Middle East, even before its participation in Metal Blast 2016 concert, in Cairo/Egypt.

I had the chance to have a nice chat with Vandrer about latest Inner Missing updates, concerts, and future plans!

First, thank you Sigmund for accepting our invitation for the interview, and I want to start with your latest shows in Turkey, Do you have any impression about the Turkish Metal scene before performing there, and what was the feedback you received?

Hi! It’s always a pleasure for me to have a conversation with you. Well, of course, I know some of the famous Turkish bands like Moribund Oblivion, Episode 13 and, of course, She Past Away (in fact all these three bands gave concerts in St. Petersburg and are well known in Russia).

Speaking about our show in Istanbul I would like to note a very high level of organization of the event by Pit Pro Org and a really nice audience we met there. We’re very grateful to Kaan Göksal for making all this possible and to Orpharion band for sharing the stage with us – we hope we’ll meet again one day.

So let's move to "The Ineffable", you established a crwodfunding campaign to fund the recording of your album, Can you tell us more about this?

Well, crowdfunding is quite common today – many bands try to collect some money they need to record an album via crowdfunding – and some of these bands succeed. We started a campaign out of pure curiosity, it was interesting to know if anyone at all will back us – and we were really surprised when we raised 350 USD which was much more than we expected.

The most interesting thing about all this was that most of our backers were the persons we didn’t hear about before the campaign. It was very nice to know that we have somebody who is interested in our music so much that they’re ready to support us financially.

Inner Missing is listed on Top European Metal bands in 2017 after releasing "The Ineffable", What are the main themes of this album, and what were your influence?

As usual, there are lots of things that induce me to write lyrics and so, there are quite different songs on the album. Some, like The Angel’s game were inspired by literature (the same name novel by Carlos Ruiz Zafon), some, like Winter Trip and Rainmakers – by personal psychedelic experience.

Concerning the distribution of the album, and concerts booking, how do you manage that, although you are not listed on any Booking Agency?

Actually, in 2017, we were signed with Alterstream Booking Agency from Finland but the deal didn’t have any results. We have to do everything by ourselves, and so, we don’t have many live shows (we had 2 last year and only one in 2018). Speaking about the album – we have signed with Sleazy Rider Records but didn’t see any results of it yet as well.

May I ask about Inner Missing latest music videos, Why does Inner Missing prefer to release many music videos?

Maybe that’s because we can do it. Just kidding, of course – we’re lucky to have good friends who can help us to visualize our songs and make the stories told using not only sound but images too. That, I think, is a very good way to catch the attention of the listener and convey to him the idea that lies within the song.

Moving to the scene in Russia, How do you see the scene now in Russia? In your point what are the main hardships face the Metal bands there?

We have some really good and unique bands here (like Psilocybe Larvae and Dominia from St. Petersburg or Kauan who emigrated to Ukraine recently), but all of them, even the most successful (by the standards of the underground, of course) don’t get the support they deserve – and it often leads to the loss of motivation and therefore to disbandment or to some kind of stuporous existence

when a band gives a couple of concerts per year in their home town and records albums or singles once in 5-10 years (that’s a typical situation in underground music here) – so, you can see that local scene lives through really difficult times now.

Tastes of Russian audience never included anything more sophisticated than pop music and hip-hop, but in recent decade, it seems, many people turned their eyes away from rock and metal completely – even at the concerts of famous bands like Opeth or Katatonia the number of listeners doesn’t exceed 200-300 persons (in St. Petesburg which has more that 5 million of population).

You performed in Egypt 2 years ago, and I remember we have meet there XD, with the great guys of Metal Blast, and Egyptian musicians, What do you still remember about this great night, headlined by Swallow the Sun?, and you told me that you performed with Saturnus, and other Iconic Doom Metal bands?

Yes, that’s right – we shared the stage with Saturnus in St.Petersburg and in Minsk and also with My Dying Bride, Katatonia and Throes Of Dawn.

Metal Blast Festival was one big and unforgettable experience for us: first of all, we never took such long (about 12 hours in total) flights before, then, we never had rehearsals at 4 A.M. (neither rehearsed we in the morning before the show) and we never played live at a temperature of +40(!) degrees – but the feedback we’ve got there made it 1000 times worth the troubles we faced.

The people were absolutely awesome - I really don’t have words to express my gratitude for their support. Also, the organization of the event (I can’t imagine how difficult it can be to bring the festival to life) was beyond all possible praise. I hope that Metal Blast Festival will progress and expand and that we’ll be a part of it at least one more time.

What are you working on, currently?

Now we’re in process of finishing of composing tracks for the new album – in fact we have 6 tracks ready and I think that after we finish 1-2 more tracks, we’ll start recording of the new material. I hope that the album will be ready next spring. Also, we’ll have one small tour across central Russia in October and one bigger tour in the countries of Eastern Europe in November, so, we have to get prepared.

Thank you so much Sigmund for your kindness, we wish all the best for Inner Missing

The Metal Divas: Female Metal Voices Around the World VII

As we are celebrating our comeback I think that it will be great to check a new part from our The Metal Divas series. This part is full of power with slight changes in our format to be easier to follow!     Adrastea (Greece ) A great voice shining from the lands of Hera and Zeus, Adrastea is rocking the Greek Metal Scene with her band Entropy Devine.  We  started with Adrastea by asking her about how she started her career.  "   I have been singing since I can remember myself. I was always a rocker so I remember I would always find a way to secretly sneak into music related activities.  I was not allowed to learn music, cause, you know  I am a woman and I should do all that society expects from a woman and nothing more.)  So I figured creative ways of doing so as a part of my Rock 'N Roll rebellion while  growing up,"  she answered. Next, we asked her about how she met her band mates.   " From an ad in search
